EAGLE LAKE — The city of Eagle Lake set a town hall meeting to address questions from its citizens about the Endeavors project. The meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 6 p.m. at the Eagle Lake Community Center at 100 N. Walnut Ave. in Eagle Lake.
According to Eagle Lake City Manager Tink Jackson, representatives from Endeavors will be on hand to field ques tions on the status of the Endeavors facility. Endeavors purchased an abandoned nursing home, started rehabbing the structure and intends to place migrant juveniles in its facility. Its website for Migrant Services states it provides direct care, migrant wellness support, case management, home study and post-release services, staffing and ho listic programming for unaccompanied migrant children and families.
Endeavors has been the subject of controversy. At issue with many Eagle Lake citizens is that Endeavors needed to accurately describe what it intended to do at the facility, misrepresented who they were and carried out its plan without the full faith and approval of the citizens.
Several rumors and innuendos have surfaced during its reconstruction period, and the town hall meeting is intended to alleviate some misgivings about the facility in the city limits.
Endeavors sits very close to the local hospital, nursing home and school and is in a residential area. One key issue has been security in and around the facility that will house migrant juveniles up to 18 years of age.
