COLUMBUS — The Columbus Chamber of Commerce received a proclamation from Governor Greg Abbott for Columbus, marking 200 years in existence and its upcoming Bicentennial Celebration.

The proclamation, in part, reads: “A town as old as Texas herself, Columbus has had a front-row seat to our entire history … From General Houston’s base camp in the Revolution to the legendary cattle drives of a bygone age, the town has witnessed many iconic moments and has epitomized both the noble pioneering spirit and the fierce independence that have come to define our people … As you reflect upon your proud past and look toward an even brighter tomorrow, I hope that you will rededicate yourselves to the values and traditions that built your city …” The proclamation can be seen and read when officials meet to discuss mitigation plans at the Columbus Chamber of Commerce office.

As Columbus approaches its 200-year birth, the chamber has been holding monthly events to celebrate.
