LA GRANGE — Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller and Fayette County Emergency Management Coordinator Angela Hahn convened a meeting of Fayette County Leaders on Jan. 4. at the EMS building in La Grange.

Several mayors, city managers and elected officials including Fayette Coun ty Sheriff Keith Korenek and police chiefs of La Grange, Schulenburg and Flatonia were in attendance. Volunteer firemen from across Fayette County were also in attendance.

Hahn discussed the Mitigation Plans for Fayette County.

Mitigation plans identify the natural hazards and risks that can impact a community based on historical experience, estimate the potential frequency and magnitude of disasters, and assess potential losses to life and property. Those plans are used to help county and community leaders prioritize those risks and make plans to address them. The plans are also used when grant funding becomes available.

Judge Mueller said, “The county will focus on natural hazards which include things such as floods, fires and winter storms.”

The leaders will meet again in February to further the discussion.
