There really was a Mrs. Baird

There really was a Mrs. Baird

that made bread. Ninia (Ninnie) Lilla Baird was born in 1869.

Living in Fort Worth, she started baking bread to make money since her husband became ill. She sold it out of her home while her sons helped out with baking and delivering. First on foot, then on bikes as the business grew, cus- tomers wanted their bread faster. Next came horse and wagon. By 1928, the bakery was the largest in Texas with four locations and a fleet of trucks. Ninnie died in 1961.

- Motel Six won't leave the light on.

- A picture is worth only 200 words.
