The tri-county area had a good portion of athletes who made the Texas High School Coaches Association Super Elite Team. This team is made up of athletes picked by members of the THSCA and the player has to meet the THSCA award criteria in order to be nominated. It recognizes student- athletes across Texas for their superior achievement in their sport.
Each nomination will be sent to the committee to de- cide the finalists who have made the team in each class. The Super Elite Teams are honored after the state championships have been revealed. The award starts in the fall of the ’22-’23 school year.
The criteria required of making the Super Elite Team is: be of good moral character, varsity sports only, have been a member of the team in good standing at the time of nomination, and the player has excelled as an elite member in their respective sport.
Making the Super Elite Cross Country Team is Fayetteville’s Cole Fenhaus and Sealy’s Gavin Almaguer. On the girl’s side, Esmeralda Garcia from Brazos was nominated. Earning a bid in volleyball is Brooklyn Jaeger and Kynley Hurst from Fayetteville, Sage Thomas from Columbus, Carly Lange from Bellville, and Hailey Hill along with Madison Fritz from La Grange.
Football players qualifying are Kobe Burton, Jaidyn Guyton, and Reese Ramirez (Flatonia), Colton Pitchford (Columbus), and D.J. Sanders (Bellville).
Balling into the girl’s basketball list are basketball players Paige Pavlu (Weimar) and Karlee Mathis (Columbus). The lone star on the boy’s basketball is Holden Kloesel of Flatonia.
