WEIMAR - Lady Wildcats softball put together a few innings with timely hits to defeat Schulenburg
High School April 4 at Lady Wildcats Field by a final score of 10-0 in six innings. Schulenburg hung with Weimar early until Weimar’s big bats and taking advantage of wild pitching ultimately propelled them to victory.
"On the offensive side, we left a lot of runners early," said Weimar head softball coach Roger Maupin.
"Izzy had a big hit to bring in the three, then I think we kind of settled down a little bit after that. It was a home game. A lot going on, so we want to play well for the fans.”
Lady Wildcats pitcher and Colorado State Univer sity softball commit Reagan Wick threw a nice gem with high speed pitches, resulting in 13 total strike outs. "My approach is to start off strong," Wick said.
“Keeping that same mentality all throughout the game and keeping my pitches working all throughout the game. You can't really slow up towards the end, you just got to keep pushing through and towards the end, it'll be good."
Schulenburg plans to head back to the drawing board and sharpen some things up for their next series of games. "The small mistakes, the errors," said Schulenburg head softball coach Gilbert Price on the outcome. “You can’t play good teams and have errors.
These guys are too good to give them anything. We got to make plays and at times we didn’t. That’s just part of it. I keep telling the girls we got to make plays. That’s the thing. We’ll see.”
Weimar scored their first run of the game on a rock - et from Hannah Fishbeck to right center for a RBI in the bottom of the first inning. Schulenburg's only hit came on a single to right field from Kassidy Kubala in the top of the second inning. The Lady Horns then held Weimar scoreless until the bottom of the third inning as they scored five runs on a triple, base hit, and pass ball. One more scoreless inning for Weimar led to four walks and another base hit, resulting in a 9-0 advantage for the Lady Wildcats. Weimar tacked on their last run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a hit batter, a steal on a wild pitch, then a wild throw on a grounder for a 10-0 win.
