BELLVILLE — It was a chilly and cloudy day for the opening jump at the Guns and Hoses run hosted by the Bellville Police Department. It was the perfect day.

The run had 167 participants registered runners, with many returning to the course year after year.

Tere Mudd of Katy said this was her first time running the Bellville course.

She liked the gentle hills and the challenges as she ran the 5k.

Ken Johnson is over 80 and one of the oldest members to traverse the course. His 5k run chalks up another medal as he finishes his 1,315 runs. He started running in May of 1983 and runs several events yearly, if not monthly.

Brocquel Carlson of Bellville is all smiles as she wrapped up her 5k run. Judging by her smiles and lack of breathing hard, she will be back next year.

There is a comradery among fellow runners. The bond that ties is the run for the finish line.

Bellville Police Department has hosted the event for th past several years.

Proceeds from the Guns and Hoses run are given to CASA for Kids of South Central Texas.

CASA advocates for the best interest of children who are in the foster care system.
