WEIMAR – Parents as Teachers (PAT) held a Group Connection Easter party for its PAT families.
On March 30, PAT hosted an Easter party for its PAT families at Weimar Elementary School with 110 people in attendance. For the kids in attendance, there was an Easter egg hunt, as well as 12 different games, crafts and activities to participate in with each having an emphasis on using and building their cognitive, social-emotional, gross motor, fine motor and literacy skills. For the Easter egg hunt, the participating children had to use their gross motor and cognitive skills to find one egg of each of the six colors available. Then, the families moved on to sort the eggs by color. After the Easter egg hunt, the children and their families moved on to participate in crafts such as creating bunny ears, tissue paper carrots, and springtime necklaces and bunny socks, also utilizing their so-cial-emotional skills necessary for working together and their fine motor skills to create the crafts. There was also a station where kids could go to make music.
Each game, craft, game and activity were purposely selected to help kids learn and develop their skills. Music helps develop the limbic system, promotes focusing on a single task and helps children express their emotions. Artistic activities, such as the crafts completed help a child recognize patterns, teaches sharing and interacting with others and promotes critical thinking. Finally, activities such as games allow kids to develop their gross and fine motor skills and cognitive functions in a fun and engaging way.
The Weimar Lions Club also provided free vision checks for children ages 1-5.
