HALLETTSVILLE — The District 11 Texas Extension Education Association Spring Conference was held on April 11, in Hallettsville with Knellen Quinteros of Austin County as District 11 Director presiding. Also attending was Pat Allee (District 11 Secretary), Rita Jacobs (Delegate), Joan Buenger (Delegate), Claudia Cieslewicz, Gloria Havemann Carolyn Balke, Shirley Beum, Barney Zimmerman, Jessie Kokemor and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Distinguished Agent Michelle Wright.
After the business session, a program was presented by Ravonne McCray on CarFit. She works with groups to ensure drivers are in the best positions to stay safe and alert inside their vehicles.
The winners of the Cultural Arts Contest were announced. First-place winners go on to the state competition in September in Beaumont. First-place winners for Austin County were Barney Zimmerman with an afghan, a painted wooden pick-up truck, an acrylic painting of flowers, and a paper flower arrangement. Doris Glenewinkel’s first-place items were a Christmas ornament and a wall hanging of a fall stencil on wood.
First place entries for Bonnie Schulz included a yellow dress costume, an Easter display, a beach photograph, a child’s John Deere quilt, a machine-quilted “chickens” quilt, a school bus quilted wall hanging, and an arrangement made with items from nature. Other entries were from Joan Buenger, Pat Allee, Claudia Cieslewicz, Jessie Kokemor, Knellen Quinteros, and Malinda Schramm.
Austin County EEA members will play a key position in the TEEA State Conference on September 12 and 13 in Beaumont as Districts 9 and 11 are the host districts.
