BELLVILLE — The Bellville High School softball team was defeated by Needville High School April 18 at Brahmanettes Field on a final score of 8-0. Bellville struggled to put the bat on the ball as the Lady Blue Jays pitching was top notch. "Needville, they're a good team and they work hard to have a good pitching staff," said Bell ville head softball coach Courtney Phillips.
"We just came out thinking we had nothing to lose and we had fun. We tried to play our our game and I think we settled in there for a little bit. We had a few things that happened and they had a couple of hits that fell for them, but it's the game and that's how we roll. Things happen sometimes our way, sometimes they don't, but the girls kept a great attitude the whole time. They tried and she was throwing a lot harder this time than we saw her the first time. That's for sure, but that's alright. I think the girls are just excited to make the play - off. They worked hard all season and when they came into this game, they felt they had nothing to lose and everything to gain." Needville put their first run on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning on a walk after two base hits and an error. They would score again on an error from a ground ball in the same inning to make it 2-0. The Lady Blue Jays didn't score again until the fifth inning on a single to right field, another single to left field, and a sacrifice bunt. Two more runs were scored in the inning due to an infield hit and a wild throw on a stealing runner to second base.
Needville then scored their
final three runs in the top of the seventh from a double by sophomore Adrian Cantu, two base hits, and a wild throw on a check down to third to cap off an 8-0 victory.
