COLUMBUS — The 2023 Magnolia Belles hold the distinct honor of being ambassadors for the Columbus Bicentennial, celebrating the 200th anniversary. The Magnolia Belles are: Carina Isabella Alonso is the daughter of Aurelio and Christy Alonso. She is very active in sports. Alonso was a Colorado County Fair Queen, 2021 District Libero of the Year and Academic and Athletic Awards.
She plans on attending the University of Dallas to continue her academics and major in Biomedical Sciences with an eye on attending medical school at Texas Tech in Dermatology.
Bailey Rae Gustus is the daughter of Rodney and Bobbie Gustus. Bailey played softball, basketball, track, tennis and golf.
She is an umpire for Little League Softball. She spends hours volunteering and attends Rock Island Full Gospel Church. She has won numerous notable awards and honors in athletics and was Academic All-District. Her plans are to attend Oklahoma Wesleyan University to further develop her relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, play softball and seek a career in Sports Management.
Lainey Schobel is the daughter of Bo and Lyndsay Schobel. She is in the National Honor Society and a Junior Ambassador for the Columbus Chamber of Commerce.
She is active in sports and is in the Colorado County Youth Ministry.Schobel is active in sports with volleyball as her focus.
She plans to attend Texas A&M University with a career goal in Business- Marketing for sports.
Grace Jackson is the daughter of Nic and Jamie Yearwood. She is a CHS Varsity Cheerleader and on the Varsity Swim Team. She is a San Bernard Electric Government-In-Action Youth Tour participant. She received cheer and swim awards and made the academic AB Honor Roll in her freshman and sophomore year.
Jackson plans to attend Blinn College in Brenham and then transfer to UTSAT to major in Architectural Design.
Evelyn Rojas is the daughter of Lydia Rojas. She has been a cardinal belle and she enjoys freestyle dances. She enjoys art and being part of the tech club, where two of her videos made it to advanced UIL.
Her future plans are to study sonography and eventually become a veterinarian.
Jordyn Templeton is the daughter of Jason and Joyce Templeton. She is in the National Honor Society and is a yearbook photographer, page editor and cover designer. She participated in Varsity Golf, the Texas High School Bass Association, where she was a member of the PPP Fishing team. She enjoys art and is a God Works Our Hands volunteer. She has won awards in Copy Editing, in Golf Regionals and State.
She will play golf for Centenary College of Louisiana. She will study Arts Management with a certification in UI Design and a Minor in Horticulture.
Matison David is the daughter of Mathew and Heather David. She is a member of the National Honor Society and a Texas High School Bass Association Angler. David is a varsity cheerleader. She is on the Honor Roll with a Cardinal Scholar Award and is a certi- fied food handler, manager, and florist.
She plans to attend Texas State University- McCoy College of Business with a BA in Business Accounting with the ultimate goal of becoming a Tax Attorney.
Audrey Potter is the daughter of Craig and Tina Potter. She is active in numerous volunteer activities and in the Colorado County 4-H and FFA. She is a National Honors Society Member, FFA President, and 2023 Miss Columbus FFA. She received the Texas FFA Lonestar degree and other honors within the FFA and 4-H.
Potter plans on attending Tarleton State University and studying Animal Science while focusing on breeding/genetics and embryology on cattle.
