Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that on April 25, Fayette County Dispatch received a call about a medical emergency. The individual in question is the sole caretaker of an adult autistic family member with no known family or friends anywhere nearby.

Due to the medical emergency, the individual was unable to provide information on any contacts or relatives and the family member was nonverbal and unable to provide any information.

CIT Inv. Castleberry, along with LGPD and Bluebonnet Trails, was able to contact the family member at the residence and provide care/supervision for them. At the same time, Bluebonnet Trails made arrangements for his care.

Inv. Castleberry attempted to locate a relative to advise them of the medical situation and the circumstances with the other family member.

With help from Fayette County EMS, he contacted a relative out of state to advise them, and they began making preparations.

Further arrangements were made to ensure the autistic family member would have supervision and care until the relative could arrive.

Korenek encourages the public, if at all possible, to keep emergency contact information with you in your wallet or purse, or you can add an emergency contact on your driver’s license when applying for or renewing it. It could be a matter of life or breath.
