New Year brings New Start for Colorado County Com Court

COLUMBUS – Colorado County Commissioners Court met on Jan. 9 for the first regu lar open meeting of the year. The agenda was extensive, however, most items had to do with the reviews of membership renewals, annual maintenance, policies and committee appointments, and plans for the year to come.

COLUMBUS — Colorado County Commissioners Court met on Jan. 9 for the first regu lar open meeting of the year. The agenda was extensive, however, most items had to do with the reviews of membership renewals, annual maintenance, policies and committee appointments, and plans for the year to come.

During the public comments, an announcement was made that Michelle Lowrence was honored by Marquis Who’s Who in America for Achievements in Accounting, Finance, Information Technology and Project Management. She received a plaque to commemorate her award.

EMS Director Michael Furrh, discussed potential costs for the construction of EMS Station No. 3 at Eagle Lake and was awarded authority to request proposals from contractors. Furrh then discussed a request for potential money for the construction of a maintenance building at EMS Station No 1 in Columbus and was awarded authority to request proposals from contractors. Furrh said, “We need to do this right,” when he spoke about the buildings. Finally, Furrh gave an overall update for the Colorado County EMS and introduced to the court the newly hired Assistant EMS Director Marti Ingvardsen who said she was excited to work with everyone.

During the announcements portion of the agenda, Judge Ty Prause, Commissioner Darrell Gertson, Commissioner Keith Neuendorff, and Commissioner Doug Wessels all welcomed the newly sworn in Commissioner representing Precinct 2, Ryan Brandt. Commissioner Brandt said that the week was slow when asked how the first week was going, but he was getting to know the precinct. He also said he was planning to go to the New Commissioners Conference.

The court welcomed Brandt and said they were all looking forward to working with him.
