Columbus head girls basketball coach Mike Albers was recently named the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) coach of the year for the 2022-2023 season. It was well deserved as Albers earned his 900th career win along with a state tournament appearance in the same season.
Under Albers, Columbus had an overall record of 31-5 and went undefeated in district play. Albers was also at the helm of last year's team that accomplished an undefeated regular season for the first time in school history. Albers is a coach who you would compare to Coach Mike Krzyzewski from Duke University or Jim Boeheim from Syracuse University with the amount of wins he has in his career. As long as Albers continues to run the show in Columbus, Lady Cardinals basketball is in great hands.
