FAYETTEVILLE — This weekend, Arts for Rural Texas will host the 19th annual ArtWalk Art and Music Festival on Fayetteville’s historic courthouse square. The event opens to the public on Saturday, May 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and again on Sunday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This free event showcases artwork by artists from across the nation. Participants will offer their works in various media including oil paint, acrylic, pastel, photography, pottery, jewelry, ceramics, mosaics, assemblage and more. “ArtWalk is an important event in the region. This event highlights the value that our rural communities place on art and its contribution to life. Art matters!. Artists matter! ArtWalk celebrates that truth,” states Kevin White, ARTS Events Director.
The arts go beyond the visual arts. Art-Walk will offer a weekend-long showcase of musicians. The musical lineup kicks off on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Fayetteville Gazebo with Mike Stroup and local favorite, Annie Rost. Bill Pekar takes the stage at 12:30 p.m. with his Americana sound and Jack “The Sax Man” Carr will bring his mellow sounds to the stage from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday’s musical lineup begins with Sunday morning bluegrass by Jeff Robertson at 10 a.m. and Industry’s own Amanda Peevler Adams at 12:30 p.m.
Saturday evening promises a great time when ARTS offers a FREE Concert featuring “Houston’s First Lady of Blues”, Trudy Lynn and the Steve Krase Band! Fresh from their European tour, Lynn’s rich and sultry vocals paired with Krase on the harmonica and the rest of the band will have the whole audience up on their feet with their high-energy style of blues. The music starts at 6 p.m. and rolls into the night.
ArtWalk is a free event for the entire family. There will be children’s booths. Food truck vendors will be on-site along with R&R Shaved Ice and the Snack Shack Kettle Korn. There are tasty treats for all.
Those adults who want to enjoy a special beverage can visit ARTS’ Wine Tasting and Beer Tent. Patrons who need a little something heartier are invited to visit a Fayetteville favorite, Joe’s Place on the Square, one of ArtWalk's spon soring establishments.
The event will take place over two days, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 6 with live music continuing until 9 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 7. Admission to ArtWalk is free, and all are welcome to attend.
