LA GRANGE — The Smith McMillan Chapter of the Texas Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is sponsoring a fundraiser for the Faison House in La Grange on Tuesday, May 16 from 4:30 to 6:15 p.m. at St.
James Episcopal Church parking lot (across from HEB in La Grange). The drive-thru features a chicken dinner with red potatoes, green beans, grilled, squash, roll, and cobbler for only $12.
“Our organization is dedicated to historic preservation,” ex- plained Regent Pamela Burke.
“To that end, we are assisting the
Faison Preservation Society in raising $12,000 to conduct a pro fessional historical assessment of the property to guide restoration.
Without this assessment, the organization will not be able to obtain other grants, such as one through DAR for historic preservation.”
The Faisons and the Smith McMillan Chapter have a common history. First, Nathaniel and Peter Faison, who lived in the home, are the grandsons of Kilby Faison, a revolutionary war hero. Additionally, Peter was serving as Junior Warden of St.
James’ Episcopal Church when the current nave was begun in 1885. In 1976, a group of women gathered at St. James’ to form the Smith-McMillan Chapter of the DAR.
