YOAKUM — The Schulenburg Shorthorn JV Band, under the direction of Assistant Director of Bands Fabian Weirich, on May 6 competed at the 11th annual Yoakum Bulldog Invitational.

The band performed three pieces for the judges and was rated on the same rubric as UIL. They earned a Division 1 (Superior) Rating (the highest possible score). This was the first time since 2019 that the band participated in this event.

The percussion ensemble under the direction of Director of Bands Justin Bartlett scored a Division 1. In the solo category, three woodwind solos and two brass solos all earned a Division 1 rating l.

Bartlett said, “This success would not be possible without the addition of the assistant director position, having Mr. Weirich as part of the team has allowed us to give more individualized attention, the ability to pull students and work on their solos while the other director conducts the rest of the band.”Schulenburg's Band Program has seen a lot of success over the past three years with the varsity band and are now starting to see that same level of success with our other Shorthorn bands within the program.
