CAT SPRING - The 73rd annual meeting of the Austin County Livestock Association will be held on Thursday, June 1, at the Cat Spring Agricultural Hall in Cat Spring.
The association, along with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, is offering a CEU program with a presentation on Pesticide Laws & Regulations. Following that will be a presentation on the Asian Longhorn Tick and other External Parasites in Cattle.
The presenters will be Cammie Johnson, Inspector, Texas Department of Agriculture, and Dr. Tom Hairgrove, DVM, Professor & Extension Veterinarian, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension.
Two CEUs will be offered for this program, 1 IPM and 1 L&R. Registration for the CEU program will be from 2:30 to 3 p.m. for a fee of $25 per person. The fee includes membership in the Austin County Livestock Association. The CEU program will be from 3 to 5 p.m.
The annual meeting will follow with registration starting at 5:30 p.m. A catered meal will be provided by Schovajsa Catering Inc. Following the meal, there will be a guest speaker, a short business meeting, and door prizes. The guest speaker will be Dr. Pete Wunderlich, DVM of Washington Animal Clinic. The program will be on the new rules for antibiotics now requiring prescription and vaccines for livestock.
The association has been committed to awarding scholarships to outstanding youth in Austin County who plan to enroll in college and major in agriculture. The association also helps support other agricultural-related activities throughout the year. The membership fee for 2023 is $25 per person. Included in the payment of your dues is one meal at the annual meeting and coverage for a $500 reward for the recovery of livestock stolen from you.
