CALDWELL - The Flatonia High School baseball team was defeated by Caldwell High School May 1 at Hornets Field by a final score of 10-3 in a warm-up post - season match. Flatonia was able to scrape some runs together, but Caldwell's hitting was sufficient throughout the entire contest. "We wanted to get our pitchers some work,” said Flatonia head

baseball coach Rodney Stryk.

"Throwing bullpens at prac tice gets old and just getting another game in and getting those guys some work was the main fo- cus. Today, really that, and to see some more live at bats because we lost a couple weeks to bas- ketball season. We're just trying to catch up, so that was just the intent of having this game. See ing some quality pitching, seeing some quality hitters from the oth- er team. It was good work for us. That's what we're using it as."

Caldwell put runs on the board in their first at bat on a walk, suicide squeeze, and a sin-

gle up the middle. Two innings later, another sacrifice bunt sent

a Hornets runner home due to a wild throw. This was followed by one more shot up the middle to score two runs and make it 6-0.

Caldwell went on to add a couple more in the bottom of the fourth inning on a shot up the middle and a wild throw from the Bulldogs in attempt to throw out a stealing runner at second, making it 8-0. Flatonia respond - ed in the next inning on an infield hit to shortstop from sophomore

Titan Targac and a sacrifice fly to right-center field from senior Dayton Cliffe to send senior Luke Law home after he was hit by a pitch, resulting in a 8-1 scoreboard.

The Bulldogs tacked on two more runs in the inning on an infield hit to shortstop by se nior Camden Bosl and another grounder to short on a field er’s choice from senior Reese Ramirez to score a run and make it 8-3. A base hit, walk, and a double from Caldwell drove in two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to put it at 10-3 and the Hornets pitching was able to close out the game for a win.
