COLUMBUS — Don Clark was sworn in as Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3, on May 11 by the Colorado County Commissioners Court to fill the unex pired term left void by the death of Judge Francis Truchard.

Clark beat out nine other applicants to be selected by a committee comprised of Commissioner Keith Neuendorff of Precint 3 and three local JPs.

He comes to the JP 3 seat with 28 years in the Secret Service. He was part of the HAMMER Team (Hazardous Agent Mitigation Medical Emergency Response) and served in various assignments with the Secret Service. He was part of the Presidential Security Team for George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump.

An emotional Clark thanked his family and the commissioners court for the appointment.

He is married to Lori and has five children. He lives in the Frelsburg area, a member of the Frelsburg Volunteer Fire Department and the Columbus Lions Club.

Clark has been his office and getting familiar with the set up with the assistance of Precinct 3 Constable Ivan Menke and Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 Judge Stan Warfield. He intends to run his office in a fair and just way. It should be noted that Clark has been appointed, not elected. The committee nominated Clark and the commissioners court approved him for the position.

Individuals wanting to file for the next term of JP 3 can file with party chairs in November 2023.
