Calling all yard sale aficionados

Are you always ready to look for those hidden riches? Do you believe in the old adage 'One man's trash is another man's treasure?' If so, 90 Miles on 90 is your kind of event.

Are you always ready to look for those hidden riches? Do you believe in the old adage 'One man's trash is another man's treasure?' If so, 90 Miles on 90 is your kind of event.

This concept, started back in 1987 by Mike Walker, was to get people to move off of the Interstates and take a journey onto the smaller, less traveled highways through the small towns.

Today it is known as 'The World's Longest Garage Sale stretching 690 miles from Alabama to Michigan. Vendors set up their yard sales, garage sales, farmers' markets, and antique sales along the highway and throughout the towns along the route. Property owners along the highway even rent their land, yards, or empty buildings to vendors. Sales do not have to be directly along the highway, just nearby.

'90 Miles on 90' is the brainchild of the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce. The yard sale will extend from Columbus to Seguin along Highway 90 and will be held on Friday and Saturday, June 2 and 3. Maps to all the sales will be available in each of the participating towns, including Columbus (Glidden), Weimar, Schulenburg, Flatonia (Waelder), Luling (Harwood), and Seguin (Geronimo and Mc-Queeney).

It's free to signup to be a vendor, but you do have to sign up with your local chamber of commerce or visitor's center to be included on the map.

So put off that garage sale you were planning and save it for '90 Miles on 90'.

For more information, please call your local chamber of commerce or visitors center.
