Austin County Fair Memorial Scholarship winners announced

The Austin County Fair Association announced the 2023 recipients of the Austin County Fair Memorial Scholarships. The Austin County Fair has been awarding scholarships in memory of deceased directors and deceased directors’ spouses since 1992.

The Austin County Fair Association announced the 2023 recipients of the Austin County Fair Memorial Scholarships. The Austin County Fair has been awarding scholarships in memory of deceased directors and deceased directors’ spouses since 1992.

At that time, the Scholarship program originally awarded 6 scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each. Over the years, the Fair Association has been increasing scholarships.

In addition to the Memorial Scholarships awarded to Austin County 2023 graduating students, the following scholarships are also awarded through the Fair Association:

• The Harold Luhn Agricultural Memorial Scholarship is presented to an exhibitor who will pursue a career in agriculture. Harold Luhn was an active member of the Fair Association and believed that the youth of Austin County world forever be our future.

The Harold Luhn Memorial Scholarship is endowed by Chuck & Rita Scianna.

• The Ed Michalke Memorial Scholarship will be given in memory of Ed Michalke. Mr. Michalke was a longtime supporter of the Austin County Fair Association since the mid 60’s working with Austin County 4-H and FFA students.

For 30 years, Ed Michalke was a familiar face with the Fair Association serving as security for the fair. The Ed Michalke Memorial Scholarship is endowed by the Michalke Family.

• The Judy Tiemann Memorial scholarship will be awarded to an exhibitor that has been involved in the Calf Scramble program.

Judy Tiemann was a director of the Fair Association in 1997-2006 and was the founder of the Austin County Fair Calf Scramble program. Judy began this program in 1990 with the purpose of teaching exhibitors the importance of the beef industry. This program continues to strive to this day because of her dedication to the youth.

The Austin County Fair Association works hard all year committing many countless volunteer hours working toward their goal of continuing to raise scholarships.

The Austin County Fair Association will have awarded $1,070,250.00 in scholarships since 1992.

The Austin County Fair Association would like to extend their congratulations to all the graduating seniors in Austin County and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors!

2023 Austin County Fair Memorial Scholarship Awards $4,500 Award: Ashlyn Davila and John Demny of Brazos High, Booke Diezi and Emma Eckelberg of Bellville High and Garrett Nedd and Grayson Oliver of Sealy High.

$4,2500 Award: Abby Achenbech, Blake Linseisen and Hope Luedeker, Stewart Poffenberger and Ashleigh Sherrer of Bellville High and Chesney Johnston of Faith Academy.

$3,500 Award: Jacob Conrad of Citadel, and Wyatt Schiel of Bellville High.

$3.000 Award: Roxanne Keel of Sealy High, Andrew Koy of Bellville High, Emelyn Harnage, Miranda Muegge and Jemma Zahradnik of Brazos High.

The 2023 Harold Luhn Agricultural Memorial Scholarship Award for $3,5000 award goes to Grayson Oliver of Sealy High.

The 2023 Judy Tiemann Memorial Scholarship for $2.000 goes to Brooke Diezi of Bellville High School.

The 2023 Ed Michalke Memorial Scholarship for $1,000 goes to Emma Eckelberg of Bellville High School.

The 2022-23 Austin Couty Fair Queen Scholarship Award for Queen in the amount of $2,500 goes to Hope Luedeker of Bellville High School.

Runner Up Queen for $1,500 goes to Jaylen Tesch of Bellville High School.

Ticket Queen Award for $2,000 goes to Hope Luedeker of Bellville High School and Runner Up Ticket Queen Award for $1,500 goes to Jaylen Tesch of Bellville High.
