WEIMAR — Nothing comes between rural fun time and barbecue. Gedenke could have been a washout with the heavy rains that whipped through on the morning of Gedenke on May 13. However, the barbecue pits kept smokin’ and the kids and kidsat- heart came out as soon as the sun peeked from the clouds.
The parade, car show and other morning activities were canceled but Weimar came out in force and filled the streets to celebrate Gedenke once again. Although there were band cancelations, solo singer Dylan Jacobs took to the stage to keep the spirits high while the other spirits flowed.
The kids took to the monkey bars and slides, played football and romped around the park.
Overall champion cooker and brisket winner was The Lone Cooker-Edward Wick. Kin- folk Cookers took first in Ribs, Good Time Cookers won first in
Chicken and Charlie Big Pota- toes won first in the Open. Da mon to the Max took the Beans and Size Matters took first in Margaritas and Salsa.
After the awards for the best of the best in all things barbecue, Casey Chesnutt and Jon Wolfe took over the stage and got the crowd pumped up on the dance floor.
The clouds cleared and the sun shone and smiles abounded.
Despite the bad weather, the 150th Gendenke goes down in history as a winner.
