Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that a Houston man is in jail for numerous offenses after a road rage incident on Interstate 10 on Sunday.
Deputy Herman Olvera responded to an incident involving a new model Ford Edge traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 that was reportedly shooting a handgun out the window. Deputy Olvera located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop near Schulenburg. The occupants, two males and a woman traveling with a small child, at first denied any involvement in any shooting or weapons being in the vehicle.
Upon further investigation, Deputy Olvera located a 9 mm handgun in the back seat of the vehicle. Further investigation revealed the discovery of Marijuana. When confronted with the findings, the driver admit - ted to firing the handgun out the window after being cut off by a couple of motorists. The driver claimed the bag in which the handgun and Marijuana were discovered. Interestingly enough, the driver was also found to be prohibited from possessing a firearm due to being a convict ed felon.
Arrested and charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Deadly Conduct, Endangering a Child and Possession of Marijuana was 35-year-old Charlie Ray Sheppard Jr. of Houston. Sheppard was transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice and booked on the charges.
