Multi-county Early Childhood Conference held in Cuero

On April 29, County Extension Agents-Family & Community Health from DeWitt, Fayette, Gonzales, and Lavaca Counties co-hosted a Multi-County/District Early Childhood Confer- ence. The event was held at the Anne Friar Thomas Homemaking Building in Cuero and a total of 60 area childcare providers registered for the all-day event.

Guest speakers were Amanda Luddeke with Building Kids Steps; Casie Ehrig with Gonzales ISD Art Therapy; Marshall Mohr, Texas A&M Disaster Assessment & Recovery Agent; David Leal, Healthy Texas Spe -

cialist Texas A&M AgriLife; and Lisa Whittlsey, JMG Coor dinator/Horticultural Specialist at Texas A&M AgriLife. Topics covered in the sessions included planning for emergency situations, health and nutrition, be- havior modification, curriculum planning and recognizing abuse through children’s art. An ac- tivity called "Museum Walk" allowed providers an opportuni ty to network and share their fa- vorite ideas/activities. Child Care Providers were awarded certifi cates for a total of six workshops and/or Continuing Professional Education hours.
