Bellville Brahmas takes loss to Davenport

BRIAN PIERSON BANNER PRESS SPO rts MANOR – The Bellville

BRIAN PIERSON BANNER PRESS SPO rts MANOR — The Bellville High School baseball team took a fall to Davenport High School May 18 at Manor New Tech field by a final score of 4-1. The Brahmas had trouble driving in runners on base in a couple of the innings and Davenport was able to connect on a handful of at bats. “We just got to execute better,” said Bellville head baseball coach Todd Hatton.

“We had a chance there in the sixth. We let them off the hook. I could tell on the bus ride over we weren’t locked in like we have been the last two series. If we’ll reevaluate, readjust, and lock in tomorrow, I think we got a great chance to force game three. Cole didn’t pitch as well as he has been, he’s a little under the weather. I thought he battled hard, gave us all he had. We just got to execute at the plate, make things happen, and force the action on them.”

After a tie game at one going into the top of the third inning, Davenport hit a two-run shot over the left field wall to take a 3-1 lead in the same inning. The Wolves then hit a triple and a single in the top of the fourth to make it 4-1.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Bellville put two runners on to start the inning, one being from a base hit by senior Tyler Fishbeck, but Bellville wasn’t able to take advantage and Davenport’s pitching was able to close it out with a 4-1 win.
