BELLVILLE — The Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run came through Bellville on May 18. Bellville Police Officer Victoria Bell carried the torch representing Bellville PD. Law enforcement runners made their way through town. Runners represented a multitude of agencies from the southeastern region of Texas.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) began in 1981 when it was thought the run would help law enforcement be active in their communities and support Special Olympics. Law enforcement members, known as Guardians of the Flame, and Special Olympics athletes carry the “Flame of Hope” into opening ceremonies.

Since its inception, LETR raised a half a billion dollars.
