ROSENBERG — The Rosenburg Police Department arrested former law enforcement officer Christopher Can - non on May 22 at approximately 9:55 a.m. Columbus Police learned that Cannon was being held on a CPD outstanding warrant.

He is facing additional charges from Rosenburg Police for working a traffic construction job reserved for police officers. He was noticed by someone who knew Cannon and his truck. Previously, the Columbus PD responded to a call at the 2100 block of Walnut Street on Dec. 11, 2022, about an Eagle Lake Police unit with its emergency lights on and stuck in a citizen’s yard.

Off-duty Eagle Lake Officer Cannon arrived in his personal vehicle to pull the patrol car out of the yard.

As a result, citations were issued for Reckless Damage and Destruction and Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility, a class C misdemeanor.

Cannon then presented a fraudulent insurance card to the City of Columbus Municipal Court Clerk on April 17, 2023, to trick the court into thinking he had vehicle insurance. CPD launched an investigation.

During a jury trial held in the Columbus Municipal Court on April 18, 2023, he was found guilty on both charges of Reckless Damage and Destruction and Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility.

A Probable Cause Affidavit seeking an arrest warrant on Cannon was issued on April 28 after a thorough investigation into the possible fraud charge.
