BELLVILLE — Bellville City Council recently recognized Bellville PD Sgt. Corey Hood and Hempstead PD Sgt Kelvin Whorton for their actions regarding an attempted kidnapping of a female by an illegal alien on May 10 that occurred in the City of Bellville.
Bellville Chief of Police Jason Smalley said, “ Sgt. Corey Hood with the Bellville Police Department and Sgt. Kelvin Whorton with the Hempstead Police Department was at the right place and at the right time, undoubtedly, an act of divine intervention. It was through their vigilance, that the murderer was unsuccessful in his attempt at abducting yet another victim, possibly saving her life and no telling how many other potential victims of that day.”
A very violent individual traveled to Bellville after viciously stabbing his wife to death in Houston. He attempted to kidnap a young lady who was at her car at one of the Bellville convenience stores. During the attempted ab- duction, the man saw the officers as they pulled into the store’s parking lot to act. He released the girl and fled the scene with the officers in a high-speed pursuit.
He rammed Sgt. Hood’s truck with such force that it disabled Sgt. Hood’s truck. Ultimately, with a number of officers now in pursuit, the kidnapper/murderer gave up.
“I want to commend these two Sergeants for their valiant efforts of that day. It was only through the Grace of God and their intervention, in being at the right place at the right time, that kept this story from having a much more tragic ending.” Chief Smalley concluded.
