The Weimar High School softball team is headed back to state with another dominant season.
After falling in the first game to Shiner High School by a final score of 4-3 on May 25 at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, the Lady Wildcats responded by winning the following two games May 27 at Texas State University in San Marcus by scores of 13-7 in the first game and 5-3 in a sec ond game that went eight innings.
Weimar put their bats on display in a must-win early game to even the series at one a piece. Shiner was able to salvage a good amount of runs, but the Lady Wildcats played with a “back against the wall” mentality and ultimately kept their season alive by forcing a series tiebreaker to head back to states. The final game went to extras after a 2-2 ball game for the majority. Weimar struck first with two runs in the first inning, then Shiner matched their two runs in the second inning.
No more runs were scored for the duration of the contest, which sent it to extra innings. Weimar’s three added runs to Shiner’s one gave Weimar the upper hand at 5-3 and another bid to the state tournament at University of Texas Softball Field.
*As of press time Tuesday, Weimar played Crawford in the Class 2A Semifinal UIL State Softball Championships at Red & Charline McCombs Field in Austin.
