Mail thieves arrested

LA GRANGE – Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that on Tuesday morning around 12:30 a.m., the Fay- ette County Sheriff's Office re ceived a call on a suspicious blue truck on U.S. Hwy 77 just north of La Grange.

LA GRANGE — Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that on Tuesday morning around 12:30 a.m., the Fay- ette County Sheriff's Office re ceived a call on a suspicious blue truck on U.S. Hwy 77 just north of La Grange.

Sgt. Ryan Meagher and Deputy Holly Smith located a blue truck matching the description and stopped the truck. The occu- pants were identified as Damon William Stewart, 25, of Houston and Amanda Jean Campos, 41, of Weimar.

During the investigation, a pat down search for weapons of Stewart was conducted and a “cake” Vape pen was located on his person which contained THC. A probable cause search of the truck revealed a methamphetamine pipe which Stewart admitted was his.

Meagher and Smith also located large amounts of mail which contained different names and addresses from the area.

It is believed both subjects were taking mail from multiple locations which included Chapparal Road, Post Oak Road, Rocky Acres Lane, Farm-to-Market Road 153, and N. Washington Sreet in La Grange.

Over 15 different addresses were located on the mail collected out of the truck.

Both subjects were arrested and transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center in La Grange and charged with Theft of Mail, ID INFO = 10 < 20, a State Jail Felony.
