Bees attack Plum man

PLUM – Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that on Tuesday afternoon around 4:37 p.m., the Fayette- County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting a male subject laying on the ground being attacked by bees on Plum Main Street in Plum.

PLUM — Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that on Tuesday afternoon around 4:37 p.m., the Fayette- County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting a male subject laying on the ground being attacked by bees on Plum Main Street in Plum.

Fayette County EMS Units Medic 3, EMS Supervisor 1 and 2 were notified and responded to the scene. Deputies Joe Gonzales, Holly Smith, and Sgt. Ron Naumann also responded to the scene with the La Grange Fire Department who was notified. Deputy Joe Gonzales arrived on the scene first and used a fire extinguisher to attempt to stop the bees from stinging the male subject.

EMS personnel, Deputy Smith, and Sgt. Naumann arrived also assisting trying to get the male subject away from the area in which they did.

Deputy Gonzales, EMS personnel, and a civilian suffered several stings and breathed the dry powder discharge from the extinguisher during the emergency.

Medic 3 transported the male subject in critical condition to the airport in Smithville where he was flown out by PHI helicopter to Dell Seton Hospital in Austin.

The male subject's name is not being released at this time and emergency personnel were treated at St. Mark's and released.
