AUSTIN — The Weimar High School softball team traveled to University of Texas for the UIL State Softball Tournament and defeated Crawford High School in a rematch of the 2022 state semis by a final score of 3-0 May 30 at Red & Charline McCombs Field. The pitching was superb yet again and the Lady Wildcats were able to put their bats to good use early in the game as well.

“Everybody was asking about last week and is that too much. I honestly think that momentum carried over to the first inning," said Weimar head softball coach Roger Maupin. "The girls were still excited. They knew that they could do it. They hit the ball real ly well. We kind of caught them off guard a bit, I think, because Izzy (Reeves) hadn't been hit- ting well. She comes and gets the leadoff hit. I just think the Shiner series hasn't left us yet."

Weimar senior pitcher and Colorado State University soft ball commit Reagan Wick tossed another stellar outing, which has become quite the normal thing for Wick as she earned the com - plete game shutout. “We were re ally hungry this year," Wick said. "I mean, this is our third year making it to the state tournament and we lost to them last year, so we knew we had to come out and play the best we can. We were just ready for it. We knew what to expect and we were really pre pared this year."

The Lady Wildcats came out guns blazing with two runs scored in their first at bat on a double by junior Izzy Reeves, who was then driven in by senior Taylor Smith on a sacrifice fly to left field. After Wick hit a fly ball to right that was botched for an error, senior Paige Pavlu came up with a base hit to send in Wick and take a 2-0 lead. A couple innings later, Weimar tacked on their third run on a walk, base hit, and a shot to left field from senior Kylie Heimcamp during a two-out rally.

The bats went quiet on both sides throughout the rest of the game and Wick was able to keep her composure, totaling eight strikeouts for the game, en route to a 3-0 victory.
