CAT SPRING — Cat Spring held its 167th annual festival on June 3 at the hall just north of FM 1094. As usual, the food was top of the line with cooks who take pride in their final product.
The barbecue consisted of beef, pork and sausage. It was served buffet style. Unlike the early days when you ate your hot meal in the June Texas heat, the festivities took place inside the air-conditioned hall.
It all took off at 5 p.m. with dine-in or drive-thru barbecue plates. Barbecue sandwiches and meat by the pound were available for anyone who wanted a takehome snack or a meal for the next day. The live auction was lively and the kids had a lot of fun activities.
No self-respecting festival wouldn’t go without a cakewalk filled with home made cakes. Last but not least, there were homemade baked goods.
