LA GRANGE The Texas Department of Transportation will be starting a project to rehabilitate the existing roadway on US 77, 0.4 miles South of La Grange, on Monday, June 19, weather permitting. In order to replace an existing concrete box culvert under the highway, US 77 will be closed for approximately
five days from June 19 - June 23. While the US 77 detour is in place, the contractor may utilize 24-hour operations to replace the box culvert in an effort to get the road back open to the traveling public. The US 77 detour is antic ipated to be in place for approxi- mately five days.
The project will be a rehabilitation of the existing roadway which will ultimately provide 10-foot shoulders and two-12 foot travel lanes for this proposed section of roadway. The existing roadway has 6-foot shoulders and two-12-foot travel lanes. The project also includes removing and replacing three centerline drainage structures.
Big Creek Construction, LTD was awarded the contract with a bid of $3.8 million dollars. The project duration is approximately eight to nine months with weather permitting.
Motorists should expect possi- ble traffic delays, are urged to use caution when driving through the work zone, and should keep the following tips in mind:
•Slow down and always follow posted work zone speed limits. Speeding is one of the major causes of work zone crashes. Re- member, traffic fines double in work zones.
•Pay attention. Workers and heavy equipment may only be a few feet from passing vehicles.
•Be patient. Delays from roadway construction can be frustrating, but it only takes a few extra minutes to slow down for a work zone.
