COLUMBUS — During the regular session of the Colorado County Commissioners Court on June 12 at the Colorado County Courthouse in Columbus, The Wellness Council continues to ful- fill its self-imposed obligation to help the county fund the Colorado County Mental Health Deputy.
A $35,000 payment completes its commitment for year two for the Mental Health Deputy position. It also donated an additional $25,000 to pay toward its third-year commitment.
Because of The Wellness Council’s steadfast work in helping the county deal with mentally challenged individuals by raising funds to pay for a Mental Health Deputy and a special vehicle, the county has seen positive results when dealing with mentally challenged individuals during a law enforcement call.
In 2022, The Wellness Council raised $165,000, and the commissioners court authorized the Colorado County Sheriff’s Department to designate a deputy as a mental health deputy. After the three- year commitment to raising $300,000 in funds, the county agreed to add the mental health deputy to the county budget beginning the fourth year.

Wild Wing Preserve got the go-ahead for Phase Two. Colorado County EMS Director Michael Furr gave an update, got approvals on the updated Charity Care Policy, the EMS Dedicated Standby Services agreement for special events, community programs and social events and for EMS standby services performed for past services.
The Colorado County Jail Renovation project moved forward with an en- gineering and architectural firm for the design and project implementations.
