Interstate 10 near Flatonia at the 660 westbound mile marker held a sweet surprise for Fayette County Drug Interdiction Investigator David Smith.
Smith stopped a Honda Civic
for a traffic violation on June 13 around 10:45 a.m. for a traffic vi olation. Smith saw that the floorboards were covered with debris and bags. Several wrapped and taped vacuum-sealed bundles were seen and appeared to be drugs.
The driver said the car was a rental, she had no rental paperwork and she didn’t know what was in the bags. Expecting drugs, Smith discovered bundles of cash instead.
The total amount of money that the driver didn’t know she had was $188,000.
Guadalupe Marines, 36, of El Paso, was arrested for money laundering.
Sgt. Randy Thurman, K-9 Kolt and Deputy Herman Olvera assisted at the scene.
