LA GRANGE — Residents in the River Road and Country Club Drive area of La Grange have seen a lot of demolition recently. In the past few weeks, two more homes have been brought down. Work on three more homes is also underway.

This project is part of the Buyout Program administered by the General Land Office (GLO) of the State. In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, Fayette County applied for and was awarded grant funds to purchase the prop- erties in the flood areas and have them demolished. Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller said, “This has been a long process. There have been stumbling blocks along the way, however, Angela Hahn, Emergency Management Coordinator & Grants Specialist, Commissioner Harvey Berckenhoff, and Cassie Austin, Court Administrator, have made sure this project gets fully completed.” Mueller said the properties would be turned into permanent green space and maintained by Commissioner Berckenhoff and his crew until a future purpose for the property can be agreed on.
