Weimar City Manager Barrow resigns

WEIMAR – In a stunning series of events that culminated with the resignation of Weimar Police Chief Todd Jacobs, the resignation of Weimar City Manager Mike Barrow followed on its heels.

WEIMAR — In a stunning series of events that culminated with the resignation of Weimar Police Chief Todd Jacobs, the resignation of Weimar City Manager Mike Barrow followed on its heels.

The Weimar City Council called a special meeting on June 15 at 5:30 p.m. to address personnel matters. Emerging minutes later from an executive session, the council voted 4-1 to accept Barrow’s resignation to be effective immediately. Councilman, Place 4 Kevin Janecka was the lone city councilman to vote no on accepting Barrow’s immediate resignation.

Another special meeting was called on June 19 where City Secretary Dolores Stoever, was installed as the interim city manager.

Stoever comes with years of experi- ence working in the city offices.

Barrow’s resignation letter emphasized the department heads and the city employees worked together by “pulling the rope in the same direction” and it was a “can do” organization.

He praised Weimar Finance Director David Mason for his problem solving and his commitment to the work.

Public Works Director James Hughes, received kudos from Barrow for his “work ethic to put in hours that no one else would” and his TCEQ compliance performance in regards to the water and sewer system of the city.

Stoever was praised for her “long-time service to city government and the City of Weimar.”

He also wrote that her “input was more valuable than you could know and I appreciated you expressing different opinions than my own.”

Lastly, he wrote that he appreciated Chief Todd Jacob’s service and his communications with him.

Barrow has worked for eight and a half years for the city.

His future plans are to be in public service as a city manager of another town or in public works.
