ROUND TOP – The members of the venerable Round Top Rifle Association have been working feverishly to present the 173rd annual July 4th Parade and Celebration.

ROUND TOP — The members of the venerable Round Top Rifle Association have been working feverishly to present the 173rd annual July 4th Parade and Celebration.

First celebrated in 1851, the parade and festivities have been ongoing without pause, even through the dark days of the American Civil War.

This year appears to be one of the best, and speaking of the best, the Round Top 4th of July parade has been voted the best parade in Fayette County.

Festivities begin on the Round Top Town Square at 10 a.m. with the presentation of our National Anthem, followed by remarks from local dignitaries and special guest speaker, State Senator Lois Kolkhorst (invited).

At 10:30 a.m., Round Top’s civil war cannon will loudly signal the start of the parade, which will wind its way through the streets of Round Top and end at the Round Rifle Association grounds.

Since midnight, the association members have been tending to the barbecue to ensure a tasty noon meal of chicken, sausage and all the trimmings. Also available, by special order only, are beef brisket and pork buts to be purchased separately from the meal. Serving begins at 11:30 a.m. A drive-thru meal pickup is also available. Call (979) 2497335 to place your special order for beef and pork.

Musical entertainment from the pavilion will be by the Round Top Brass Band, featuring patriotic music, as well as good old polkas, waltzes and marches. Sharing the stage is the renowned singing group Cool Freddie and the Gang presenting patriotic and current popular music. Also, a jam session with some very fine accordion players will be on hand. Entertainment ends at 4 p.m.
