Alley Cats bring home the bacon

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Annual June Cook-Off was cookin’ on its own with temperatures in the high 90s with the heat index well into the 100s. But that didn’t stop the avid bunch of barbecue’ers from parking up under the huge shade trees at the Colorado County Fairgrounds on June 16 - June 17.

COLUMBUS — The Columbus Annual June Cook-Off was cookin’ on its own with temperatures in the high 90s with the heat index well into the 100s. But that didn’t stop the avid bunch of barbecue’ers from parking up under the huge shade trees at the Colorado County Fairgrounds on June 16 - June 17.

The pit area was packed with RV’s, custom pits and, some not so custom. When it was all said and done, Team Alley Cats took first place with the high points of 594.64, All Ways Smoking took second place with 558.60 points and third place was Mid Coast Cookers.

Junior Pitmasters cook-off for the junior division, ages 7-12 and senior division, ages 13-17 squared off at the pit but was onefor- all when it came to the foam.

Proceeds from the cook-off benefit the local FFA chapter and is overseen by the Columbus FFA Alumni. The funds are used for scholarships, trips and leadership events that enhance the student experiences throughout each school year.
