COLUMBUS - The Colum bus Fire Department had Lady Luck on its side on June 27. The whole fire station could have gone up in smoke. Oh, the irony.

Firefighters Chris Pilsner with Renslip Fire Protection and Da- vid Meisell of the Bernardo VFD, along with Columbus Fire Administration Officer Duane Naiser were taking measure- ments at the fire station for a sta tion upgrade quote.

Pilsner heard popping sounds in the station. Upon investigation, they found the tower truck starting to smoke. The tower truck was moved out of the bay using a city truck and chains and a call went out for help. The fire was extinguished and the culprit seems to be the alternator.

The fire caused significant damage and the tower truck will be out of service for an undisclosed amount of time while repairs are made.
