The Weimar High School softball team has had tons of recent success as they’ve went to the
the horizon to make a long run. The Shorthorns recently hired Luke Hobbs as their athletic director, a former assistant to Matt Schobel with Columbus High School football.
At the helm for Schulenburg boy’s basketball is Richard Hoogendoorn, a coach who has experience at the college level and hauled the Shorthorns to the state tournament in ’21. Hoogendoorn’s in-game coaching is impressive and he always gets the most out of his guys, who happen to be superb athletes as well. Schulenburg returns Tyler Ryba from injury, one of the most athletic players on the roster, as well as guard Rodney Walton. These two are great overall athletes who can help carry their team deep in the postseason. The Shorthorns also have underclassmen returning who saw a lot of playing time last year. ’23-’24 has the potential to be a monster season for Schulenburg hoops.
state tournament three times in a row, winning the state crown this past season. The Wildcats were led by senior pitcher and Colorado State University softball commit Reagan Wick, a lefty who threw with speed and could also challenge opposing batters with her off-speed pitches. Wick struck out her opposition more often than not and had hitters on the opposite side of the ball providing run support.
Head coach Roger Maupin knows the state tournament scene very well and will have six total seniors on his 2024 roster.
Getting a taste of winning on the ultimate stage and being in position for the last three years, Weimar’s experience will pose a huge threat to teams next spring and summer.
