WEIMAR - If you are contemplating getting a dog,
or if you already have one, the Friends of the Weimar Public Library has a program for you.
On Friday, July 21, at 10 a.m., the Weimar Public Library gazebo area is the place to be to participate in a competitive dog agility demonstration and a presentation on methods to use to teach your dog obedience and tricks.
Michelle Banse Stokes has been training dogs since she was 13 years old. A Weimar native, she started competing in dog agility at 19.
Over the years, she has at tended the American Kennel Club Agility Invitational three times and has qualified for AKC Agility Nationals 12 times with three different breeds. Stokes has also competed for the United States Agility World team tryouts, placing in the top 10 percent. At the World Series of Dogs at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Stokes and her dogs have competed in the finals round on multiple occasions, winning spots on the podium besides some of the best dogs in the country. Several of her dogs have achieved the highest titles in the sport, including Master Agility Champion.
In addition to agility, Stokes has also competed in obedience, tracking and earthdog. Currently, Stokes competes with Texas, a borderpap (a Papillion/Border Collie mix), in UKI agility trials across the nation and is set to attend the nation al competition in Jacksonville, Florida later this year.
