Stanzel Family Foundation sponsors four to Camp Invention

SCHULENBURG – The Stanzel Family Foundation is proud to have sponsored local students to attend Camp Invention in La Grange.

SCHULENBURG – The Stanzel Family Foundation is proud to have sponsored local students to attend Camp Invention in La Grange.

The students were funded through the Dale Kirn Memorial Scholarship, awarded every year to four local students who show an aptitude in science, technology, engineering, art and Math in the Schulenburg or Weimar schools. This opportunity allows the students an opportunity to further develop critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication skills as they work together in hands-on and project-based activities.

Here students have time to exercise their creative problem- solving skills as they work in teams, learn through discovery and learn the merits of persistence. This year’s recipients were Faye Hobbs of Schulenburg Elementary, Easton Rosas of Weimar Elementary, Cannon Lykke of St. Rose of Lima Catholic School and Christopher Castillo of Schulenburg Elementary.

The Stanzel Family Foundation established the Dale Kirn Memorial Scholarship to honor Dale Kirn, who embodied the spirit of Camp Invention.

Kirn was very technologically inclined, designing and flying his own model airplanes before he met the Stanzel Brothers. Eventually, he worked for the Victor Stanzel Co., traveling around the country to sell Stanzel planes.

Even after he stopped working for Victor, he continued to recommend updates to Victor to keep the Stanzel planes relevant to the times.

The Stanzel Family Foundation wishes to foster those skills in the next generation.
