Fayette County, in conjunction with the Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG), is pleased to offer an emergency notification system to its resi - dents. CAPCOG uses a regional notification system (RNS) called as a crucial public safety tool. The web-based tool is available to users throughout the CAP -
COG region to alert the public to emergency and non-emergen cy situations.
"WarnCentralTexas is an ef - fective tool for notifying a rel - atively large number of people in a short period of time about pending disasters, local events and public safety concerns. Reg - istering with WarnCentralTexas allows local officials to contact their communities by phone, email and text," said Angela Hahn, Fayette County emergency management coordinator.
"Messages may include con -
tent such as incident-specific information, recommended pro tective actions or response direc- tives. They can be delivered to
various devices that accept voice, email or SMS text content and to alpha or numeric pagers," she said.
"CAPCOG provides this tool to the County at no charge. We can reach residents through the 911 database but to ensure residents and visitors alike can be notified in the event of an emergency, we really need people to register for the service. It's a simple process; go to WarnCentralTexas.com and follow the registration link. You can customize what messages you want to receive and how you want to receive them. A word of caution if you sign up with multiple devices you'll receive multiple messages!" said County Judge Dan Mueller.
"This is a separate notification system from the National Weath - er Service and Amber Alerts, al - though you might get the weather alerts through WarnCentralTexas if you choose that as an option. It's a good way to keep informed locally," Mueller said.
