H.B. 2015 amends the Government Code to raise, from 70 to 75, the age at which a person qual- ifies for an exemption from jury service on the basis of age and the age at which a person may claim a permanent exemption from jury service.
The bill's provisions apply to an exemption from jury service for a person summoned to appear service on or after the bill's effective date. This bill goes into effect on Sept. 1, 2023.
If you turn 70 after Sept. 1, 2023, you will not be eligible to obtain the permanent exemption from jury duty until you turn 75 years of age.
If you are already filed for a permanent exemption your status will not be affected.
