Newly hired Schulenburg head football coach and athletic direc- tor Luke Hobbs had his first offi cial day on the job Jan. 3 after a stint as the offensive coordinator for Columbus High School football. The move was made a while after former Schulenburg head football coach and athletic director Walt Brock was dismissed due to a heated altercation during a football game with one of his assistants.
Hobbs takes over a Schulenburg program that has plenty of good athletes and he looks forward to the task at hand. “Just being a small part of Columbus was a huge learning experience for me,” said Hobbs. “Columbus was an awesome opportunity because it’s a program that’s ran really the right way. It’s very structured, the kids play extremely hard, and they win a lot of games. That’s something I hope to implement here at Schulenburg. Getting this job at Schulenburg is just a huge blessing. It’s something I didn’t intend on. I think that if we get a good staff together and the kids all buy in, I think Schulenburg can be a phenomal place.”
Hobbs brings great experience to Schulenburg being under NFL veteran and current Columbus head football coach Matt Schobel. This is a great chance for him to make a name for himself in the black and orange as things are brightening up for the Shorthorns.
