Schulenburg Volleyball Releases ’23 Schedule

After punching a ticket to the state volleyball tournament in 2022 at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, the Schulenburg High School volleyball team looks to pick up where they left off as they recently released their schedule for the 2023 season.

The Lady Horns have two big matchups in August that could easily result in barnburners: August 15 vs Bellville at home and another home matchup with Fayetteville on August 29. Bellville also made the state tourney last year and Fayetteville was on the way to repeating their state title in 2021 before star-player Brooklyn Jaeger went down with an ACL injury.

As Jaeger will continue her volleyball career at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi this fall, the Lady Lions will look much different without Jaeger on the court, which could be an advantage for Schulenburg in their matchup.

Fayetteville will then have a balanced September with non-conference opponents and fellow Fayette County opponents such as Round Top-Carmine and Flatonia. They’ll play Flatonia and Weimar twice each throughout the months of September and October. Even though it’s very hard to make it to the big dance, Schulenburg returns players such as libero Kieryn Adams, middle blocker Meredith Magliolo, and hitter Jessalyn Gipson who will all be seniors. Under highly-experienced head coach Donald Zapalac, 2023 has the potential to be another monster year for Lady Shorthorns volleyball.
