Round Top-Carmine’s Weishuhn goes from multi-sport athlete to multi-sport coach

Round Top-Carmine coach Catie Weishuhn calls the shots in track, basketball, and volleyball as head coach and has had plenty of success. Weishuhn also played multiple sports at Giddings High School and ultimately pursued softball, pursuing it so much that she ended up playing college ball at Blinn College, then transferred to St. Edwards University in Austin and became a volunteer assistant after her playing career. Weishuhn played two years at each school.

"When I finished, I didn't really know what I wanted to do,” said Weishuhn. “Then I got a call from some people at Round Top asking if I’d be interested in the basketball position. That was a second love of mine next to softball, so I said yes.” After taking the basketball job, Weishuhn gradually took over the volleyball and track head coaching jobs over time. “It just kind of happened the way it happened,” Weishuhn continued.

Since being at Round Top-Carmine, Weishuhn has sent many athletes to state track and has brought her volleyball team to be one of the most competitive teams in the area, going toe-to-toe with elite teams such as Fayetteville and was even able to knock off the Lady Lions at home last year in extra sets.

“It’s been awesome,” said Weisuhn. “Here at RTC, we’re really lucky to have a good group of kids that are super coachable. That makes my job a lot easier and the success has just kind of come from them working hard and us all being a team and being on the same page. I have some great help from my assistants and these kids just work hard.”

Weishuhn is a players coach who brings her high-level athletic experience to Round Top and it shows in the results and how her teams play. The connection between coach and player is essential to building a winning formula and the Cubettes will continue to reap the benefits as long as Wei shuhn is in town.
